DRIVERS are only just realising their dashboards may be concealing a secret compartment.
The TikTok user known as Kaitlyn Dodds took to the social media site to reveal all to her followers, saying it had only been discovered by accident.
Her post headed with “If you have a Mini Cooper, look for this secret compartment” has been viewed around 364,000 times, picking up more than 4,000 likes and nearly 200 comments.
Kaitlyn added the comment: “Well I never knew this till my boyfriend kicked it by accident.”
The brief clip appears to show Kaitlyn behind the wheel of her car and then reaching over with her left hand to a silvery panel to the left of the central air vent.
She simply presses down on the panel and it then pops open revealing a sort of mini glove compartment behind it.
While some commentators claimed they knew about it already, many others were clearly learning about it for the first time or had only discovered it by accident.
One person wrote: “I found this by accident when wiping my dash down, was like ooo cd compartment.”
Another said: “I had a mini for years and never knew this.”
A third posted: “I discovered mine by falling and pressing it hahaha.”
However, it seems the hidden compartment has been discontinued on newer models as one person added: “They stopped it after 2014 unfortunately.”
Another commentator chipped in with: “I have a Cooper a 2018 and it’s not on mine. I was disappointed.”
Motorists have been heading online recently to reveal the secret compartments they’ve found in their own vehicles.
One driver showed the compartment under the passenger seat of their Fiat 500 that opens up and has extra storage space.
TikTok user @zoerobert.s filmed a video opening the secret compartment, and most users were shocked.
She also found a small glove box in front of the passenger seat - and most drivers say they use it to leave coins.
Skoda included a compact foldable umbrella on the door of their Superb saloon, so drivers never need to worry about stepping out into the rain again.
And the Nissan Ariya's new feature is ideal for watching television and films while waiting for the car to be fully charged.
TikToker @Jedhasselloverland also posted about the hidden compartment in his Volkswagen Touareg.
