Police say a thief stole a Girl Scout troop's cash box from a cookie stand outside a Safeway in Maryland.
It happened even though the girls had two chaperones with them.
"I've done a lot of crisis communication pieces and this is the first time I've heard of something like this happening to one of our girl scouts," said Lidia Soto-Harmon, CEO of Girl Scout Council of D.C.
On Sunday afternoon, a young man walked up to a Girl Scout cookie stand and stole the troop's cash box which contained more than $100.
Soto-Harmon says the funds raised from selling cookies are used to do everything from community service projects to funding trips.
"We're not going to let one incident stop us from pursuing the dreams that girls have," she said.
Soto-Harmon said she's grateful no one was injured. 'Romance scams' costing potential lovers big bucks
